Photoshoot & Process
Who is a Dance Artistry Photoshoot For?
The answer is simple:
Any dancer that wants to showcase her own unique beauty and strength. Young and old, new to professional, this type of photoshoot is not the dance pictures you receive at your recital. There will be no "smile and say cheese" at this session.
This experience will capture movement and strength and freeze in time the courage and beauty that lies within all dancers.
Celebrating going en pointe, your first recital, your last year of high school dance, your first year on a team, your first professional booking, or just a desire to capture your skills and abilities are some of many reasons to book a Dance Artistry Photoshoot.
Pre-Session Consultation
Prior to your photoshoot, we will have a telephone or email consultation. During this meeting, we will go over what images you would most like to capture and where/how. We will discuss the styles of dance you do as well as consult about poses, movement, and positions. We will discuss your wardrobe, hair, makeup, shoes, and tights.
How Long is the Photoshoot?
Both studio and outdoor session bookings will typically last around 1 hour. Plan to wear each costume for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Unlike a typical photoshoot where small details, such as the tilt of your head don't make or break a photo, dance photography hinges on the details. Having the exact tilt of your chin, your finger, your toe at the exact moment of the photograph is paramount to receiving images you adore. Many photos will need multiple takes with adjustments.
When Will I See My Images?
Your dance photoshoot is unique in that after most captures, we will consult on the image to ensure your satisfaction. You will see what you look like in many of your poses before you leave the session.
At the conclusion of your session, I will begin editing.
Typically your proofing gallery will be delivered within one week.
After you select your images, they will undergo final edits and be available in one week.
What to Wear
We will discuss your options during your consultation call. Generally speaking, I love to showcase movement and strength in two separate outfits.
Strength can be achieved most simply with a leotard, especially for ballet and pointe.
Movement is best captured with a flowy dress.
Does it need to be a costume? No.
Many dancers can wear artistically long dresses that can be rented or purchased through a variety of sites.
Costumes that you love, tutus and silky fabrics are always welcome.
A nude leotard or nude strapless bra and undergarment should be worn.
Makeup suggestion is light stage makeup and false eyelashes.
Hair suggestion is up however bringing it down for a few photos is always nice.
Photoshop Enhancements
Light touch ups including blemish removal and skin smoothing are included for all Dance Artistry photoshoots. As a general rule of authenticity, I do not do body slimming however, your dance photos are works of art that should be cherished and you may request slight photoshop adjustments such as body smoothing, which I'm happy to do complimentary.
Pricing
Dance Artistry is very different than a regular photoshoot, and is priced accordingly.
The initial photoshoot is $100 for in studio or $150 for an outdoor session. This cost covers the photographers time and talent. Photoshoots can include several costumes.
Once your images are available, they will be priced as follows:
10 images - $250
15 images - $325
20 images - $400
All images will be available as digital images as well as printed on 5X7 premium quality photo paper.
You may also order an embroidered linen box with your dancer's name on it to place the photos in.
Audition Photos/ Dance Headshots
Many dance auditions require several photos such as a headshot, an arabesque, and a leap photo. These images often need to be submitted with audition applications.
You may book audition photos as a separate session. This special booking is for these 3 poses only.
Session Includes:
*Up to 30 Minute Photo Session in Studio
One outfit only, simple leotard/tights recommended
3 digital images are included and can be selected from a gallery of 15 photos
Additional images will be available for purchase beyond the 3 included photos
Total session price for Audition Photos including 3 digital images is : $195+ tax
